The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that human remains were found near the Gilchrist/Suwannee county line on Thursday, Dec. 11.
Lt. Jeff Manning, public information officer for the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, said positive identification has not been made on the remains that were found.
In April, 2014 the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office in searching for a Dixie County man who was reported missing. Family members state at the time that the man had made several references to suicide. His vehicle was found abandoned near the Santa Fe River bridge on the Gilchrist/Suwannee county line. However, the man was never located.
Without positive identification being made, Lt. Manning said he cannot confirm that the bones found last week are the man who was reported missing earlier this year, but it is likely.
No foul play is suspected.
