For many years Mr. and Mrs. C. Clifford Wilkerson sat in rocking chairs on the front porch of their wood frame Trenton house.
The Wilkersons moved to town after Mr. C.C. retired from the railroad.
The Wilkersons were good people who raised a strong family. Many of their descendants still live in and around Gilchrist County.
On Saturday, Mac Johnson demolished the old Wilkerson house which has been owned by Gilchrist County since 2007. The home was riddled with asbestos and mold and had to be removed.
Bobby Crosby, Gilchrist County administrator, said that he would like to see the county use some of the salvaged materials from the home in a display project. As an example, Crosby said maybe in the front lobby of the Board of County Commissioners meeting facility with a reference to where the materials came from, so it would serve as a reminder to future generations of Gilchrist County history.
The county administrator said there are no plans for the vacant lot at this time.
