Twenty-two Trenton FFA members participated in leadership workshops, leadership development events (LDE) and career development events (CDE), award recognition, and the career expo at the 89th Florida FFA Convention.
The Agricultural Issues team delivered a presentation on the usage of drones in the agriculture industry. Team members included Lauren Roberts, Caroline Johnston, Makenzie Smith, Christianna Norfleet, Adam Smith, and Erin Cherry.
Lauren Roberts competed in the prepared public speaking LDE where she earned 4th in the state. Zachary Hardee earned 3rd Place in the Animal Systems category of the state agriscience fair. Additionally, Lauren Roberts won 1st place in the Environmental and Natural Resource system category and was the overall Division 3 winner in the state agriscience fair. Her application will be forwarded to the national level.
Adam Smith participated in the Agricultural Education Institute to learn more about becoming an Agricultural educator and signed his intent to become an agriculture teacher. Lauren Roberts was recognized as a state finalist in the Agriscience Research proficiency area with her Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) on honeybee research.
Colton Rucker was recognized as a state finalists in the Forest Management proficiency area with his SAE work at a family sawmill. Tyler Herrington was the winner of the Agricultural Sales proficiency area with his SAE business, JTC Beef, that he operates with members Justus and Carson Jones. His application will be forwarded to the national level. Taylor Dean participated in the state talent event.
Taylor Dean, Colton Rucker, and Caroline Johnston earned the State FFA degree. Aaryn Lord, Matthew George, and Cody Norton were recognized for earning the American FFA degree which they will be awarded at National FFA Convention in October.
Brooks Parrish, Florida’s National Officer Candidate, encouraged FFA members to share their story of agriculture with others in his remarks to the convention body.
The Trenton Middle FFA chapter was recognized for having 100% membership and the Trenton Sr. Chapter was recognized as one of the top chapters in the state as Florida’s Finest. The members had a great week learning about leadership, careers, and making new friends.
