The winners of Gilchrist Soil & Water Conservation District (GSWCD) speech and poster contest participated in the AFCD Area 2 contest in Live Oak on Thursday, April 12, 2018. Local winners were Braley Hines in Public Speaking, Emily Pedersen in the middle school division and Linden Teague in elementary division of the poster contest. These students received cash prizes and certificates from GSWCD and qualified to advance to the AFCD Area 2 Contest.
Area 2 covers 22 counties in North Florida and these students represented Gilchrist County in this competition that included students from throughout Area 2. Braley Hines won the Public Speaking contest and will advance to the state AFCD contest in Ocala on August 25. Emily Pedersen placed second in the middle school division of the poster contest. Each of them received a gift card and ribbon.
GSWCD appreciates the efforts of these students and their families to help deliver the message of the importance of conserving our natural resources through their participation in these events.
