Trenton FFA is pleased to announce that one of their own, Justus Jones, was named a Florida FFA Area II State Vice Presidential Candidate. Jones said the State FFA Officers from this area have always impressed him and inspired him to seek state office.
Jones said when he entered 6th grade his mother encouraged him to get involved with school activities that he might take a leadership role in and he decided to try FFA. He began with a Forestry Career Development event and after that he was convinced that FFA and all it has to offer was for him.
Watching the State FFA Officers from this area has impressed him and made him choose to seek a state office.
Over the next few months Jones will visit area FFA Chapters at annual banquets and meetings. During these visits Jones will become acquainted with chapter members and hopefully gain their support at the State FFA Convention in June. Area II is made up of Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Suwannee, Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and Union Counties.
Each school has middle and senior chapters which have two voting delegates. These delegates will cast a vote for either Justus Jones or Ashley Harris of Lake Butler. Jones said that his FFA Advisor Ashley Thoron has been a great help as he enters into this final part of his FFA career.
Ashley Thoron, Trenton Sr. FFA Advisor said, “Justus has a strong passion for the agricultural industry, it is his passion and strong work ethic that will allow him to continue to be an exceptional advocate for agriculture and the FFA.”
Jones’ FFA accomplishments include serving as the Vice President of the Chapter this year and holding an officer’s position since middle school. One of his most exciting accomplishments was starting a company with his brother and a friend. Their company is JTC Beef LLC and they processed and sold beef from their own cattle herds.
Recently he was the winner of the Florida Agriculture Hall of Fame Scholarship and traveled to Tampa to receive the scholarship with his advisor.
Jones’ Career Development Events known as CDE’s were Forestry, Livestock Judging, Parliamentary Procedure, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Vegetable Judging and Agriculture Sales.
For the past several years he has worked with his father in the family business BMP Logic installing soil moisture probes. Jones said working with his father has had a great influence on him. His experience with BMP Logic has helped shape his plans for the future. After high school and hopefully a year serving as the Area II Vice President, he plans to attend University of Georgia and study crop and soil science. He would one day like to help farmers grow their crops more efficiently and effectively.
Justus is the 18 year old son of Justin and Karen Jones of Trenton.
The 90th Florida FFA Convention will be held in Orlando from June 11 to 15. Afterwards, hopefully Justus Jones will return to his Gilchrist County home as the Area II Vice President.
