This past week the Tigers played at home all three games. On Monday, the Tigers took on 7A Columbia High School. On Tuesday, the Tigers played the Branford Bucs, and on Thursday the Tigers hosted 5A Baldwin.
Monday night the Tigers suffered their first loss since losing to Keystone early in the year. In the bottom of the first inning, eighth grader Jenny Lynn Johnson was hurt at second on an attempted steal and had to leave the game. The Tigers never seemed to get their offense going after that. The Tigers were trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out when two controversial calls ended the game. Columbia held Trenton to just 5 hits on the night and both teams played error free softball. Darian Ingram was the losing pitcher for the Tigers giving up 4 earned runs on 11 hits and one walk.
The Tigers got their offense going again on Tuesday against the Bucs. The Tigers pounded out 11 hits in 6 innings with Hallie Bryant going 3 for 3, pitcher Darian Ingram 2 for 2, and Zakyah Frazier with a double. Darian Ingram started the game again for the Tigers and pitched 3 innings, giving up 2 hits and one unearned run with 4 strikeouts. Senior Josie NesSmith finished the game for Ingram and pitched the last three innings with only 1 hit and 2 strikeouts. The Tigers won 11-1 and stayed undefeated in district play.
On Thursday the Tigers had no problem getting hits but struggled badly with the glove. Baldwin was able to scratch out 5 runs on 9 hits, but was helped by the Tigers’ 7 defensive errors and several mental errors. Josie NesSmith started for the Tigers and went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 6 runs, only 2 earned, on 8 hits with no walks and 3 strikeouts. In the top of the sixth, with the scored tied 5-5, Darian Ingram entered the game to pitch for NesSmith and got the batter to strike out. In the bottom of the 6th Taniah Bowers drove in Zakyah Frazier to put the Tigers up for good. Hallie Bryant was 3 for 4 with 3 stolen bases, Taniah Bowers was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Zoey Maksimov was 2 for 3 with a double, Zakyah Frazier was 2 for 3, and Grace Guthrie had 2 stolen bases. The Tigers won the game 6-5 and improved their record to 14-2.
This week the Tigers play 6A Dunnellon on Monday, 1A Mayo on Tuesday and district rival 1A Chiefland on Friday. All the games are at home and all start at 7 p.m. Come out and support your Tigers.
