The Trenton Tiger baseball played tough competition last week as they defeated Branford on Monday, and lost to Trinity Catholic and South Sumter in Trenton.
On Monday the Tigers defeated the Bucs 6-1 as Landon Kennedy pitched a 7-inning victory while allowing 1 run, 2 hits, 2 walks and 10 strikeouts to sustain the Tigers undefeated record in District play. The Tigers’ Daniel Plank hit 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Wyatt Langford hit 2 for 4 and had 2 RBIs. Landon Kennedy, Landon Parrish and Chase Malloy each hit singles for the Tigers. Trenton’s base running accounted for 4 of 5 stolen bases by Blake Hall, Chase Malloy, Daniel Plank and Wyatt Langford. This game was tied at 1-1 after the 1st inning. Trenton scored 1 run in the top of the 3rd and 5th innings to take a 3-1 lead into the top of the 7th. The Tigers put the Bucs away after scoring 3 in the top of the 7th to seal the win.
On Tuesday evening Trinity Catholic took advantage of Tiger miscues and defeated the (8-4) Tigers 11-5. Carson Jones opened this game on the mound for Trenton. The Patriots scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning and 2 more runs in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. The Tigers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the Trinity lead to 4-3. The Patriots scored 1 run in the 4th and 3 in the 5th to take a 8-3 lead into the 6th inning. Trinity added 1 run in the 6th and 2 in the 7th. Trenton scored 1 run in the 6th and the 7th but fell short of the rally as they dropped an 11-5 game. Trey Sanchez hit 2 for 4 with a homerun, an RBI and scored 2 runs. Landon Kennedy hit 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Blake Hall had 1 hit and scored 1 run. Chase Malloy hit a double and scored 1 run. The Tigers were 3 for 3 in stealing bases as Blake Hall, Zachary Hardee and Daniel Plank earned free passes.
On Friday afternoon the Tigers were shutout by 5A South Sumter 8-0. The Tigers played Christ Church Academy on Monday afternoon. Trenton will host Branford on Thursday in a District 7A game. These games will first pitch at 6 p.m.
