The Bell High School Runnin’ Bulldogs Track and Field Team performed at the FHSAA State Track and Field Meet in Jacksonville, Florida on May 4th and 5th. Every state qualifying high school in the state of Florida was at the University of North Florida for two days competing at one of the best track and field facilities in the state.
Kerrisa Grieves competed in the girls 100 and 200 Meter Dash on Friday, May 4th. Running against 24 of the fastest girls in class 1A, Grieves finished 9th place in the 100 Meter Dash preliminaries with a time of 12.55 seconds and 11th place in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 26.41 seconds.
On Saturday, May 5th, Madison Carver and the Lady Bulldogs 4x800 Relay Team competed at the state meet. Carver finished in 15th place out of 25 girls throwing the discus at 91 feet, 09.00 inches.
The 4x800 team which consisted of Savana Thomas, Melonie Piechocki, Hailee Hayward, Scharma Hendrix, and Rayanah Mkuu, faced stiff competition in their event. The team finished 19 out of 24 teams with a time of 10 minutes, 45.20 seconds; just missing their record time at Regionals by 4 seconds.
“These girls have made my coaching staff and myself very proud of their accomplishments”, said Coach Brad Surrency. “To be able to be here at the State Finals in track and field is a huge accomplishment in itself. These girls have faced the most challenging competition that they have ever faced in this sport and did well. I am extremely pleased with their performance. They will be back.”
The Bell Track and Field Team has had a very successful season in 2018 and Coach Surrency said that he was expecting even more great things in the future for this team.
