Large tree crushes car and storms bring much rain over the weekend

Gilchrist and Dixie Counties experienced stormy weather over the weekend. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for both Saturday afternoon and Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. The watch included wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and possibility of hail as well as lightning.
Bell and Trenton both had five inches of rain during the Sunday afternoon storm. The rain flooded several roads and low lying areas.
Trees were down in several areas throughout the county. A tree fell on a home in Trenton and a lady in Bell had a tree crush her car.
Pat Baum of Bell had a giant Water Oak fall on her car on Friday, July 20 at 5 p.m. Ms. Baum, a longtime Bell resident, said, “I looked out here and my car was a flat blue pancake.” She went on to say that she was very thankful for her friend who, along with his friend, came on Monday morning to remove the tree and clean up the mess. The tree destroyed her steps and front stoop but other than that, her home received no damage. She was very thankful that no one was hurt.
