Bulldogs shut out Warner Christian to close season

By Matthew Harrell
The Bulldogs closed out the regular season by winning consecutive games for the first time. They defeated Warner Christian, 52-0, Friday night.
Despite the win, the Bulldogs failed to make the playoffs, as their win moved the Bulldogs from category 4 to category 3 and gave Branford the 10 points it needed to secure the sixth and final playoff spot.
The Bulldogs surpassed their season high for points in the first quarter, jumping out to a 36-0 lead before the second quarter started. Bell added 16 more points in the second quarter to take a 52-0 lead into the lockers.
The coaches agreed to eight-minute quarters and a running clock in the second half and the 52-0 score held to give the Bulldogs their fourth win of the season.
Bell amassed 277 yards of offense, all on the ground, in the win and scored six offensive touchdowns. The defense came through with another score as Wyatt Thornton scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The win moves Bell’s record to 4-6 on the season. It is the fourth consecutive season in which the Bulldogs finished 4-6 and the fifth time in a row they have failed to reach the .500 mark on the season.
