Cane grinding tradition continues in Gilchrist County

Alcohol a factor in UTV crash that injured local child

A 5-year-old girl was critically injured on Saturday when the Arctic Cat she was a passenger in overturned and she was ejected near Waters Lake. Kingsley Tompkins, 5, was a passenger in a 2014 Arctic Cat driven by Benjamin Tompkins, 39, when the UTV overturned on its right side ejecting both the driver and the child. Full Story »

210 local families receive Thanksgiving dinners

The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Volunteers are making a Thanksgiving meal possible for 210 Gilchrist County families this year. The Thanksgiving dinner project started years ago when several Sheriff’s Volunteers provided 20 or so turkeys to local families who were going through a difficult time and would otherwise not have a Thanksgiving meal.
