Walk-a-thon generates $15,713

The skies cleared on Saturday morning just in time for the Gilchrist County Education Foundation to raise $15,713.89 at its 2015 Walk-a-thon. Each year the walk-a-thon serves as a fundraiser for scholarships for graduating seniors and teacher mini-grants. Committee plans for restoration of Trenton’s “Old Gym”

The Bell Bulldogs will advance to the Regional semi-final on Tuesday, February 17 in Jasper. Kidnapping, sexual battery in SE Gilchrist County

  A 40-year-old Trenton man is being held in the Gilchrist County Jail after being arrested for sexual battery, kidnapping and armed burglary. Jerry Dean Smith is accused of entering a home in southeast Gilchrist County, where he confronted a female victim. Commissioners vote down extending hours for alcohol sales

Alcohol sales in Gilchrist County will not be extended to 2 a.m. Monday-Thursday. The Gilchrist County Commissioners voted unanimously on Monday, Feb. 2 to deny a request by Tom Sturgeon, owner of Ellie Ray’s RV Resort, to extend the time of sale for alcohol. Full Story »

Former prison officers guilty of battery on inmate

A jury found two former officers at Lancaster Correctional Institute guilty of Malicious Battery on a Prisoner without great bodily harm at the close of a three-day trial last week.
